World Book Day

Did you know that the World Book Day is also known as the World Book and Copyright Day or International Day of the Book?
It is an annual event organized by the United Nations Educational,  Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to promote reading, publishing and copyright. It was first celebrated on 23rd April 1995, and it continues being celebrated every year since then.
In the UK and Ireland, the World Book Day is a charity event celebrated annually on the first Thursday in March. On that day, every single child in full-time education receives a voucher to be spent on books. Their version of the World Book Day began in 1998, launched by the Prime Minister Tony Blair, to avoid the fact that the 23rd April coincided with Easter school holidays and Saint George's Day. However, on 23rd April, a World Book Night is organized by Uk's independent charity The Reading Agency, working closely with public libraries, promoting the benefits of reading among children and adults.
